Common Problems When Trying to View the Tutorial Videos
Choose from the following list:
Images
and Text are distorted and unreadable, and when the window is resized,
it remains that way.
The audio
can be heard, but the video does not appear.
The video
can be seen, but there is no audio.
When the
movie opens up in media player, the size of the window is bigger than
the screen, or the bottom part of the window is cut off.
Images
and Text are distorted and unreadable, and when the window is resized, it
remains that way.
- If you are using any video
player other than Windows Media Player 6.4, you may experience some
slight difficulties when trying to view the tutorials. The videos are
optimized for MP 6.4, which will provide the best audio and video quality.
Viewing the tutorials in any other media application may result in loss
of audio or video quality.
- Users viewing the videos
with Media Player 7.0 will not be able to see the videos clearly because
they are not being played back at 100% the original screen size. To
get around this, you must use Media Player 7 in 6.4 mode. Follow these
steps to switch modes:
- 1. Locate and run the
file MPLAYER2.EXE that is located in Program Files\Windows Media
Player. This will run MP7 in 6.4 mode.
- 2. When MP 6.4 is running
select View > Options > Formats and check the Available Formats
so that Media Player will play Video Files and all of the Windows
Media files. This will set the Windows Shell Associations to use
Media Player 6.4 when you click on a video.

can be heard, but the video does not appear.
- If you are using Media Player
6.4 and Internet Explorer 3.02 or above, you should not have a problem
viewing the tutorials with both audio and video. If you do not have
one or either of them installed on your computer, you may download them
by follwing these links:
For Internet Explorer - http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/
For Media Player - http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/en/download/default.asp
- If you do have Media Player
6.4 and Internet Explorer 3.02 or above installed on your computer and
you still have this problem, it is likely that you are missing the proper
codec to run the video. A codec is an algorithm that compresses and
decompresses video for playback on your computer. Make sure that all
windows default codecs for video are added by following these steps:
- 1. From the Start Menu,
choose Settings > Control Panel.
- 2. Double-click Add/Remove
Programs.
- 3. On the Windows Setup
tab, click Multimedia or Sounds and Multimedia, and
then click Details.
- 4. Make sure the box
next to Video Compression is checked. If it is not, check
the box to select it, and then click OK.
- 5. Click OK.

When the
movie opens up in media player, the size of the window is bigger than the
screen, or the bottom part of the window is cut off.
- All videos were recorded
at a screen resolution of 800 x 600 pixels. If the window appears to
be larger than the screen, it is probably because the display settings
on your computer are at a resolution coarser than 800 x 600. To change
your screen resolution, click on the Start menu and then go to Settings.
Select Control Panel from the list. Next, click on the Display
icon. Choose the Settings tab and find the Screen area box. Adjust
the screen area and resolution by moving the arrow up or down the scale.
The most common setting is 1024 x 768, and is also the best setting
for viewing the tutorial videos. After you have made the adjustments,
hit the Apply button.
